About East Central University

East Central University, or ECU for short, is a 4-year, public university located in Ada, which is the county seat of Pontotoc County, situated in the US state of Oklahoma, a city with a population estimated at a number of more than 16 000 inhabitants, during the 2000 census. Ada was named after the daughter of an early settler and was incorporated in 1901.

ECU was founded in 1909, as East Central State Normal School, 2 years after Oklahoma was admitted as the 46th US state, and gained university status in 1974, when the state legislature renamed the state colleges, its present name being adopted in 1985, being previously known as East Central Oklahoma State University.

Today, East Central offers its students a total of 68 degree programs, through 5 academic units, which are: The School of Business, College of Educations and Psychology, College of Health and Sciences, College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences, and the School of Graduate Studies.
